Illinois State Police Investigating Officer Involved Shooting

East St. Louis, IL – The Illinois State Police is currently investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred near I-255 and State Street in East. St. Louis.

On June. 23, 2015, at approximately 11:30 p.m., a Trooper conducted a traffic stop on the northbound entrance ramp to I-255 from State Street in East St. Louis.  The Trooper, a nine year veteran, suspected that the driver was intoxicated and asked the driver to exit the vehicle for field sobriety testing.  At some point, while the suspect was outside of the vehicle, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired at the Trooper.  The Trooper returned fire and the suspect fled the scene on foot.  The suspect, described as a black male wearing dark colored clothing, was last seen running south-southeast from the scene.  The Trooper was not injured and it is unknown if the subject was struck.

Officers are currently on scene investigating the incident.  The identity of the suspect is still being confirmed.  No further information is available at this time.
